People who once thought they had unlimited water have learned the hard way that it can disappear in the blink of an eye when it is not used sustainably and cooperatively. Water pollution is often the main reason people give for not having enough water. Often overlooked are the serious problems caused by taking water from one area and moving it to another or using water faster than it can be replenished. When water is removed from a ground- or surface- water source and not directly returned to the same watershed or basin for future use, it is considered a consumptive use.
